What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser when you visit. They allow the website to remember certain information about your visit โ whether you've dismissed a notice, accepted terms, or how you navigated the site.
Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or malware. They are simply data files. Most browsers accept cookies by default, but you can change this in your browser settings.
Cookie types we use
Essential cookies
Always activeRequired for the website to function. These cannot be disabled. They include the cookie consent preference you set on this page, session security tokens, and basic navigation state.
Duration: Session or up to 12 months
Analytics cookies
Allow us to understand how visitors use the website โ which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and where visitors arrive from. This helps us improve the site. Data is aggregated and anonymised.
Provider: Google Analytics ยท Duration: Up to 26 months
Marketing cookies
Used to understand which channels bring visitors to the website. May involve third-party advertising networks. Cognoscent does not currently run retargeting campaigns, but enabling these supports basic attribution tracking.
Duration: Up to 90 days
Preference cookies
Remember settings or choices you have made on the website โ such as display preferences โ so you don't have to set them again on your next visit.
Duration: Up to 12 months
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services that appear on our pages. These include:
- Google Analytics: If analytics cookies are accepted, Google Analytics may place cookies to track anonymised usage. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by Google.
- Google Maps: The embedded map on the home page may set cookies when loaded. This is a Google service; their privacy policy applies.
We do not use social media tracking pixels or advertising network cookies by default.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also control cookies directly through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect how some parts of the website function.
Google Chrome
- Open Chrome and click the three-dot menu in the top right
- Select Settings, then Privacy and security
- Click Cookies and other site data
- Choose your preferred setting or manage exceptions per site
- To delete existing cookies: click See all cookies and site data, then Remove all
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Firefox and click the hamburger menu in the top right
- Select Settings, then Privacy & Security
- Under Cookies and Site Data, select your preferred level of protection
- To delete cookies, click Clear Data and check Cookies and Site Data
Apple Safari
- Open Safari and click Safari in the menu bar, then Preferences (or Settings on newer versions)
- Go to the Privacy tab
- Choose Block all cookies or Prevent cross-site tracking
- To remove existing cookies, click Manage Website Data and remove as needed
Microsoft Edge
- Open Edge and click the three-dot menu in the top right
- Select Settings, then Cookies and site permissions
- Click Manage and delete cookies and site data
- Toggle Block third-party cookies or manage site-specific exceptions
Your rights
- You may withdraw cookie consent at any time using the preferences controls above
- Withdrawing consent applies to future data collection; it does not delete data already collected
- Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the website, though some features that rely on remembered preferences may behave differently
